As a recovering alcoholic, I find it really annoying that all these assholes do really fucked up shit and then immediatley enter rehab and claim that they are alcoholics. Listen here Mark Foley, Mel Gibson and Bob Ney and all the rest of you pathetic losers that want to blame their crappy and creepy behavior on being an alcoholic. Quit slandering alcoholics, we have enough problems, mostly of our own making, without having to be associated with people like you. Next thing you knoe Joe Lieberlier is gonna claim he's an alcoholic too!!! I know alcoholics, and I've never known one yet who had a drink and all of a sudden became a pedophile, or a racist slimebucket or a thief. People usually drink too much to hide from their feelings or because they can't stand themselves for one reason or another. The bad behavior usually preexists the drinking, get it? I guarantee you that if you are a pedophile or a racist or a thief you were one before you ever picked up a drink and unless you quit blaming alcohol or anything else (other than YOURSELF) you will continue to be a pedophile or a racist or whatever you are now. Maybe you need to start up your own 12th step group, your own A.A.. You could start your meetings like this 'my name is Mark and I'm an asshole. Yeah, Assholes Anonymous, i'm sure it would be big, especially with you cool aid drinking right wing christofascists. Good night and good luck.

Another Useless War - The War On Drugs

Just a quick sketch today about drugs and society. This is one of my major interests and I would welcome input from anyone who can help me develop more information on this topic in the future. I hope to post more detailed analysis on the details of the failure of the war on drugs and the fight to legalize drugs.

The war on drugs has been a complete social, medical and financial failure and we must legalize all drugs now. Yeah, I just thought I'd start out slowly and ease you into the subject... and then I thought no, I think I'll use the sledgehammer approach!!!

Listen, we are spending about 40 billion dollars a year in the war on drugs in Canada.... and we are losing. We are losing because about the same percentage of people are addicted to drugs now that have always been addicted to drugs. We are losing because our police, courts and jails are full of drug offenders and cannot handle the things that really concern us as a society. We are losing because 20% of hospital days are related to drug abuse and other people can't access adequate medical care. We are losing because 40 billion dollars a year are being flushed down the toilet.

Look, it's really simple, if addicts didn't need to steal to get drugs, our homes and our streets would be safer. As a side effect the police would be free to protect us from other non drug related crime. Also it would eliminate drug houses, shooting galleries and drug labs in residential areas. And for those who don't like seeing homeless people, it would greatly decrease homelessness because addicts would not be spending their rent money on drugs.

Even if you have no compassion for the person who contracts HIV or Hepatitis C, think about the amount of money that our already broke health care system spends annually on these diseases. Make no mistake about it; our criminalizing of drug addiction in the last 100 years is responsible in large measure for the spread of these diseases in North America.

Finally, I'd like to end this brief introduction to "the war on drugs" by saying that I and many others who are more knowledgeable than I believe that drug addiction is not a criminal problem. First of all it is a medical problem. To state it in a slightly more complex way, it is a Biological-Psychological-Social-Spiritual disease and if there is a cure it is certainly not going to be found in jail!!! If there is a cure, we could come closer to achieving it if we took those 40 billion dollars a year and spent a portion of it on exploring and providing treatment options.

Yeah, if he's dead he must have died a happy man. For an investment of a couple of million bucks he has been able to get Chimpy to implement everything he could have ever dreamed of. I was reading a post by Norman Horowitz at huffingtonpost.com where a friend of his said to him "due process and the constitution are so pre 911", and the sad part is that it's true. in America people who support human rights and oppose torture are called traitors. Bin laud'em would have loved it. He wanted to bring down America and he's got them breaking the bank to create more terrorists in Iraq. He's happy, I'm sure, that Chimpy has abandoned Afghanistan to Osama's buddies, the Taliban and the drug warlords. I'm even more sure that America has degraded itself in the eyes of the world by legalizing and legitimizing torture. And I'm sure he smirks when he sees how America is alienating most of their old friends and allies to some degree or another because that's the first sign of Empire collapsing. His biggest regret about being dead is that he won't be able to fire off letters to America every time he wants people to be scared enough to vote for the Rethuglicans, I mean the Repugnicants. Ah, sweet dreams Osama, we hardy knew ye!!!

Canada in Afghanistan

Our traditional role since W.W.II has been peacekeeping and please enlighten me if you know anyway this can be justified as peacekeeping. The way it looks to me is that we are there to try and prop up an ineffectual American puppet regime that IS NOT going to last. How many more Canadians need to die for nothing?? What are we doing where?

Like many of you out there who have minds, I am really upset with the use of the term "war on terrorism". It is no more possible to have a war on terrorism than it is to have a war on water. Terrorism is a tactic, not an enemy!! That being said it is pretty obvious that g.w. bush (hereafter referred to as chimpy or chimpy mcbush) is actually waging a war on civilization as we know it and is conciously or unconciously trying to destroy the earth. Canadians are, thank god, not fighting in Iraq but we are in Afghanistan where we are being slaughtered in increasingly large numbers as the taliban(remember the taliban - they harbored bin laden) and the drug warlords and the taliban regain control because CHIMPY forgot to beat them before his side trip to Iraq.
